If you get into a car accident, should you call the police?
Yes! And here’s why!
Even if your just in a fender bender it is always good to call the police.
Whether the accident was your fault or not it is good to get a police report if possible.
Sometimes if the Snellville or Gwinnett County police department is backed up they will not send an officer to a scene of an accident… if it is just a minor one. But it’s best to call anyways and allow the police to make that decision.
The next best thing is to exchange information with the other driver.
1) Don’t just ask for insurance numbers and the persons name. Ask to see the insurance card and a valid drivers license, especially if you suspect that the other party is being dishonest. You can even call the other drivers insurance company at the scene of the accident to verify. Don’t leave the scene of the accident until you have all the information you need!
2) If you have a camera phone, shoot pictures of the damage and the tag of the person involved. It is good to have a visual record. Also pictures of the street where you are at to show conditions.
3) When you are finished collecting all the information call your insurance company. The sooner you call the better. You don’t have to give them all the details, just the facts!
